How to open YouTube Music links in Spotify

Short answer

Spotify can't read YouTube Music links, so you need a converter in between. Android – set SongFlip once as the app for music.youtube.com; after that every YouTube Music link opens in Spotify with 0 taps. iPhone – share the link to SongFlip (1 tap). Just one link – paste it into the web demo and copy the Spotify link. Moving your whole YouTube Music library is a separate task – see the FAQ.

What's inside a YouTube Music link

YouTube Music shares links in a few shapes, and each one points to something different:

  • music.youtube.com/watch?v=… – a single song. The v= value is a YouTube video ID, the same kind of ID regular YouTube uses.
  • music.youtube.com/playlist?list=… – an album or a playlist. YouTube Music stores albums as playlists, so both look alike.
  • music.youtube.com/channel/… – an artist page.
  • youtube.com/watch?v=… or youtu.be/… – a normal YouTube video, often a music video.

None of these IDs exist at Spotify. SongFlip reads the title and artist behind the ID, searches Spotify's catalogue for the same recording and opens it in the Spotify app.

Android: YouTube Music links in Spotify with 0 taps

  1. Install SongFlip from Google Play and choose Spotify as your player.
  2. Follow the setup screen to Settings → Apps → SongFlip → Open by default, tap Add links and tick music.youtube.com.
  3. Tap a YouTube Music link in any chat or browser – Spotify opens the matching song, album or artist.

music.youtube.com can't be ticked? On many Android phones YouTube Music comes preinstalled and already owns that domain. You often can't uninstall it, but you can open its app settings and switch off Open supported links – after that SongFlip can claim the domain. Step by step: fixing “Open by default” on Android.

Leave youtube.com with the YouTube app – most of those links are ordinary videos you still want to watch there. When someone sends a music video on regular YouTube, share it to SongFlip instead.

iPhone: 1 tap via the share menu

iOS opens YouTube Music links in the YouTube Music app or in Safari, and no third-party app may take them over silently. SongFlip therefore sits in the share menu:

  1. Install SongFlip (currently via TestFlight) and pick Spotify as your player.
  2. Long-press the YouTube Music or YouTube link and tap Share.
  3. Choose SongFlip – Spotify opens with the song.

If the link is already copied, the SongFlip shortcut on the Action Button or via Siri converts it straight from the clipboard.

Only need one link? Convert it online

Paste the YouTube Music or YouTube URL into the SongFlip web demo. You get the Spotify link, plus links for Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and Amazon Music, ready to copy into a reply.

Why a YouTube link sometimes finds nothing on Spotify

  • Uploads that aren't releases: covers, live recordings from the audience, remixes by fans or DJ sets exist only on YouTube. Spotify has no matching track, so no converter can find one.
  • Video titles with extras: “Official Video”, “Lyrics” or “4K” in a title is noise. SongFlip looks for the actual song, but a music video can contain an intro or a different edit than the album track. More on this in the guide on wrong song versions.
  • Regional catalogues: a release can be on YouTube Music in one country and missing from Spotify in yours. The web demo shows which services do carry it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The SongFlip app does it when you tap (Android) or share (iPhone) the link. Without the app, paste it into the web demo and copy the Spotify link.

Yes, as long as the video is a released song. SongFlip uses the video's title and artist to find the track on Spotify. Covers or fan uploads usually have no Spotify equivalent.

For a full library move, use a migration service such as TuneMyMusic or Soundiiz. SongFlip's playlist converter is meant for single shared playlists: public playlists of up to 50 songs, the first 5 free.

No. SongFlip has no account and never asks you to sign in to Google or Spotify. Spotify itself only needs to be installed and logged in as usual.

No. Neither service offers direct account integration, shared stats, or live library synchronization between YouTube Music and Spotify. To open shared YouTube Music links directly in Spotify without typing out titles manually, SongFlip performs the translation on your device – completely without account logins or OAuth tokens.
