How to open Spotify links in YouTube Music
Short answer
Neither Spotify nor YouTube Music has a button for this. The quickest ways: Android – set SongFlip as the app for Spotify links once; from then on every Spotify link opens in YouTube Music with 0 taps. iPhone – share the link to SongFlip (1 tap). Just one link, no app – paste it into the web demo and copy the YouTube Music link. Moving a whole library is a different job – see the FAQ.
Why Spotify links don't open in YouTube Music by themselves
A Spotify link (open.spotify.com/track/… or the short form spotify.link/…) contains Spotify's own catalogue ID. YouTube Music uses completely different IDs, so neither app can translate the link. Without the Spotify app, your phone shows a web preview that wants you to log in – and you end up searching for the song by hand.
SongFlip fills that gap: it reads which song, album or artist is behind the link, looks up the same release in YouTube Music and opens it there.
Android: Spotify links in YouTube Music with 0 taps
- Install SongFlip from Google Play and choose YouTube Music as your player in the app.
- Follow the setup screen. It takes you to Settings → Apps → SongFlip → Open by default. Tap Add links and tick
open.spotify.comandspotify.link. - Tap any Spotify link in WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram or your browser – YouTube Music starts the song.
Spotify links greyed out? Then the Spotify app is still installed and claims its own links – Android allows only one app per domain. If you have moved to YouTube Music for good, uninstall Spotify or, in Android's settings for the Spotify app, switch off Open supported links. Details: fixing “Open by default” on Android.
iPhone: 1 tap via the share menu
iOS doesn't let any app quietly take over another service's links. SongFlip therefore works where iOS allows it – in the share menu:
- Install SongFlip (currently via TestFlight) and choose YouTube Music as your player.
- Long-press the Spotify link, or open it, and tap Share.
- Pick SongFlip – YouTube Music opens with the matching song.
Even faster: copy the link and trigger the SongFlip shortcut with the Action Button or Siri – it converts the link straight from the clipboard.
Only need one link? Convert it online
On a laptop, or when you just want to send a friend the right link, paste the Spotify URL into the SongFlip web demo. You get the YouTube Music link plus Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and Amazon Music links to copy. On your phone the app is quicker, because there is nothing to copy.
Common snags
- Music video instead of the album track: YouTube Music often has both. If you land on the wrong version, the guide on wrong song versions explains why and what helps.
- Song missing in your country: catalogues differ by region. If a release isn't on YouTube Music where you live, no app can open it there – the web demo shows which services do have it.
- Podcasts: SongFlip also handles podcast links, but many Spotify episodes simply don't exist on YouTube Music. In that case pick a podcast player that carries the show.
- In-app browsers (e.g. Instagram) sometimes ignore Android's default apps. Choose Open in browser or share the link to SongFlip.
